Test everything. Hold on to the good.

Re-installing Xenu today, I saw this quote from the Bible: 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Test everything. Hold on to the good.

Which seems very apposite, and should be the watchword for all IT people.

But I didn't recognise it.

This page explains that the verse is from the New International Version of the Bible (©1984)

The translation I recognise from The Kings James version is Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Clearly the newer translation was written for the modern Twitter world. Earlier verses (selectively quoted) even tell us when to work

So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled ...

Hmmm... no more late night testing then, and certainly not with a glass of wine.
