I’m trying to do shorter walks, in and arround Harwell village. It’s been so cloudy these last few weeks that opportunities for sunshine are few and far between. Fortunately, in winter, sunrise and sunset are at reletively socialable hours, so here are a few local low light images.
First up, the cemetery. A few days after this the wind stripped the trees of their autumn leaves.
North of the village is Grove Farm, once full of apple trees, now still defined by the rows of poplars
Grove Road is not a place to walk, espcially as the light fades, but this oak tree stood out still with leaves near the naked poplars.
Heading south there’s a triangular walk: The Holloway, Ichnield Way and The Winnaway.
Sustainable Harwell has a project to plant a hedge along the Holloway. Here’s their effort from February this year (2025)
While, at the junction with the Icknield Way, whips have been planted alondside the dog exercise pen.
On the Winnaway there’s a clump of beech trees beside the Bagg’s Tree Field. These are known as “The Cuckoo Pen”, I’m told, but have no idea why, and have never seen the name on a map or any other source.
A few days later, the sunset was spectacular
And Cow Lane remains submerged
