Also at Kew Gardens

A bit early for blossom, especially Cherry blossom, so here’s a set of flower buds of different Prunus species.  (They should all have ID’s in the gallery). Plus a couple of other species.

Prunus ‘Amayadori’

Prunus ‘Hokusai’

Behind the Palm House is a ring of “Yoshino Cherry” Prunus X yedoensis. Cultivated for centuries in Yoshino, Japan, before being introduced to Europe and America in 1902 and is now one of the most popular flowering cherry trees worldwide, and provides the annual cherry blossom display in Washington DC. Yoshino cherry is a hybrid between Prunis speciasa and Prunus subhirtella
