Cotswolds walking weekend – February 2024

Two dry days with signs of spring: crocus and a bee, Haycroft Farm, Sherborne

Five circular-headed arches over Sherborne Brook. Late C18-early C19. Coursed squared and dressed limestone. Central arch the tallest. Piers with imposts. Parapet with flat capping. Pyramidal cappings to piers at ends of bridge parapet. Tallest piers on south side also function as gate piers. Now you know.

Near Salperton

The other side of the valley. From Kitehill Barn, Notgrove.

Avenue of beech. Gloucester Way, outside Notgrove.

Long Barrow, not far from Bourton-on-the-Water

Snowdrops

In All Saints Church, Salperton. “The painting depicts a skeleton grasping an arrow in its right hand and standing on a coffin. There is a scythe at its feet, which suggests that this may be an early depiction of Father Time.”

Fabulous lichen. On a dead tree. Trumpet Lichen, Cladonia fimbriata or Pixie cup lichen
