Days away Isle of Mull Scotland Wildlife Worldwide

Isle of Mull

Another Wildlife Worldwide holiday, this time on the Isle of Mull, looked after by Bret and Alexa.  Amazingly, for Scotland, a week of sunshine and no midges.

Four boat trips, several scenic drives, and much searching by the shore for otters.

Past Staffa, and Fingal’s Cave(closed for landing just then)

on the way (with Turus Mara) to Lunga Island , for puffins..

(Another homecoming for Penny’s puffin)

A magical hour or so listening to a cornrake calling, waiting for it to show, while in the background, the seals were singing on the shoreline

Another day, out past Tobermorray and Ardnamurchan Point, beyond Coll, with Muck and Eigg in sight, we saw Manx Shearwater

and a mega-pod of maybe 200 common dolphins

The trip highlight was the white-tailed eagles, seen from the boat round Ulva and within Loch na Keal. Each eagle has its own territory and is offered just one fish, so it hardly becomes dependant on being fed. Focus on the fish, it was said, and for the first dive all I got was a puddle of water. Later I tried to follow the eagle in the sky as it dived for the catch. This was more successful.

We had some fabulous sunsets, while looking for otters, but sadly the suspect otters turned into seals.  We did however have a very distant sighting of a pair of golden eagles. Majestic. Will just have to come back for the otters.
