We started at Great Coxwell Barn, all eight cars (or was it nine) filling the lay-by outside.
For those that struggled to see it, here’s the Uffington White Horse taken from near Colleymore Farm.
Old (mature) trees in Coleshill Park (Oaks?)
And, one of several, a dead tree
Here’s a fun subject – Strattenborough Castle
Built for 2nd Earl of Radnor in 1792. Strattenborough Castle Farm. Castellated. Designed to double as a working farm and an eyecatcher for Coleshill House. It is a large farmhouse with two sham towers, arrow-slits, cross-windows, and battlements. One of the barns has a stepped gable, the other a sham five-light window. Bits of genuine 11th century fabric built in. [Source: Charles & Historic England]
Approaching Badbury Hill, a field with last year’s sunflowers and some eager rape
Lots of bluebells on Badbury Clump, but maybe not as many as in other years (still early?).
Always a challenge to photograph inside
More about the barn from our 2022 visit, where you can read how dendrochronology dated the barn to about 1292.
For the lepidopterists we saw orange tips, peacocks, and first for 2026, a red admiral and green-veined whites, plus a cuckoo bumble bee.
